Women's Tennis Drops Conference Opener to Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team fell to No. 8 Michigan 6-1 in its Big Ten season opener and is now 7-2 and 0-1 in conference play. The Spartans' only point of the match came off of Michaela Silesova's 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (11-9) single's win at the No. 6 position.
Sophomore Amy Barton lost her first single's match of the season when she fell to No. 8 Denise Muresan, 6-0, 6-4. Barton is now 7-1 in singles play. Freshman Valentina Ruaskova dropped her match by a decision of 6-1, 6-0 to No. 104 Brooke Bolender. No. 34 Sam Crister defeated freshman Marina Bohrer, 7-5, 6-1. Sophomore Dana Guentert lost to No. 71 Whitney Taney, 6-0, 6-2. No. 123 Mimi Nguyen dropped sophomore Nicole Herzog, 6-4, 6-2. In one of the closest match of the competition, Silesova posted a victory over Wig, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (11-9).
The Spartans failed to earn the double's point for the first time this spring season. The No. 60 duo of Barton and Bohrer downed No. 22 Bolender and Muresan, 8-5. They are now 8-1 as a pairing in doubles. Wilson and Herzog suffered an 8-6 lost to Taney and Tatsuno. Silesova and Rusakova were topped by Crister and Nguyen, 8-2.
Michigan State will host Toledo on Sunday, Feb. 27th at 3 p.m. Action will take at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
