EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State gymnastics held its annual Green and White Meet on Sunday afternoon on the third floor of Jenison Field House. In a close competition, the Green squad topped the White team, 116.50-116.05.
"I was very pleased with the performances at the annual Green and White Meet," said head coach Kathie Klages. "The team improved by over two points since the last intra-squad and is competing with poise and confidence. I look forward to seeing additional improvements in the scrimmage against Western Michigan. We will have four real judges and will be able to gain a better understanding of what to expect at the beginning of the season in January."
Sunday's meet was judged by celebrity judges that included Coach Klages, head field hockey coach Helen Knull and strength and conditioning coach Tim Wakeham.
The winning Green Team was captained by senior Jackie Berg, and included Alina Cartwright, Daneen Haba, Dani Levy, Ashley Noll, Selina Rodriguez, Ashley Stevenson and Carson Tabiolo. Meanwhile, the White Team was captained by senior Alyssa Brennan, and included Sarena Bumbarger, Gillian Carr, Ellie Gosselin, Kelsey Mazur, Taira Neal and Alex Pace.
The scoring took the top three scores in each event to cumulate the final team totals. Cartwright won the all-around title with a score of 39.10, also claiming first place on the bars with a 9.8. Other event winners included Neal on vault (9.9), Bumbarger on beam (9.9), and a tie between the two captains, Berg and Brennan, on the floor.
The Spartans return to competition on Sunday, when they host Western Michigan in a scrimmage on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 1 p.m.
