
Wrestling Wins Both Duals On the Road in Pennsylvania

LEWISBURG, Pa. - After beating Lock Haven Saturday afternoon, 30-6, the Michigan State wrestling team traveled to Lewisburg, Pa., to take on Bucknell and came away with a 27-6 win in the evening. Michigan State (2-1) lost two of the first three matches but went on to win the last seven matches to claim the victory.
At 125 pounds, Brenan Lyon lost an overtime decision to Austin Miller of Bucknell, 3-1. They were knotted at one after three periods; each recorded just an escape in regulation. Miller recorded a takedown in overtime and came away with the decision.
Brandon Fifield won his second match of the day, a 5-2 decision over Shawn Armato at 133 pounds. Fifiield was fueled by two early takedowns in the first period and added a riding time point in the third period.
In the 141-pound match, Andrew Ermatinger fell to Alex Pellicciotti of Bucknell, 7-1.
No. 18 Dan Osterman recorded a 4-0 decision over Derrik Russell at 149 pounds. Osterman had a takedown in the first period and added an escape in the second as well.
At 157 pounds Anthony Jones Jr. came away with a close 4-3 decision over John Regan of Bucknell. Jones did not give up a takedown in the match but Regan was able to escape on three separate occasions to keep him in it. Jones came up with the deciding takedown late in the third period to secure the win.
Nick Proctor remains undefeated on the season (9-0) and picked up his first dual win, a 4-1 decision over Ray Schlitt at 165 pounds.
Curran Jacobs kept the Spartans rolling at 174 pounds with a 7-3 decision over Stephen McPeek of Bucknell.
Ian Hinton beat Jamie Westwood with a 5-1 decision in the 184-pound match and notched a takedown and an escape in the third period to assure the victory.
At 197 pounds, Nick McDiarmid needed a huge third period to beat Tyler Lyster, 7-4. McDiarmid was down 4-2 heading into the third but came up with two near fall points, a reversal and added riding time to record the decision.
Bucknell forfeited the heavyweight match and the Spartans won, 27-6. Michigan State went a combined 57-12 in the two non-conference duals against Lock Haven and Bucknell.
Michigan State opens the Big Ten season on Friday, Dec. 9 at Purdue.
