EAST LANSING, Mich. - Spartan fans will get their first chance to watch the 2012 Michigan State gymnastics team on Sunday, Dec. 4 at the annual Green and White Meet. The event is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. at the third floor gym of Jenison Field House.
The 2012 Spartans will be divided into two squads for competition, as selected by the coaching staff, and will be captained by seniors Jackie Berg, Alyssa Brennan, Daneen Haba and Selina Rodriguez. The routines will be judged by celebrity judges, which will be announced at the meet.
New to this year's Green and White Meet, Coach Klages has added an educational component to the afternoon. As the team preparing for and taking part in the 3-minute touch, she will explain each event to the crowd, including how it is scored and what the judges typically look for.
Following competition and awards, the Perfect 10 booster club will be conducting a Meet-and-Greet with the team. Spartan fans will have the opportunity to join the club, in addition to enjoying food and drink.
Michigan State looks to build off its third place finish at the NCAA Regionals last season, tying for its best placement all-time. Nine of the 11 Spartans who competed in Corvallis, return in 2012, including second-team All-Big Ten selection Jackie Berg. Five freshmen add to the returning core, adding additional excitement to the season.
The Spartans host Western Michigan in a scrimmage on Dec. 18 at 1 p.m., before kicking off the 2012 season on Jan. 6 against Washington in Jenison Field House.
