The 2011 senior class has helped Michigan State to a combined record of 33-15 (.688); the 33 wins are tied with the 2010 class for the most victories ever recorded by a senior class in MSU's 115-year football history.
There were three ties and three lead changes in the game.
The Spartans now lead the all-time series 27-17, including a 16-6 record in games played in East Lansing, Mich. . . . Overall, Michigan State has won 21 of the last 27 meetings against the Gophers. . . . The home team has won four of the last five games in the series.
MSU extended its current home winning streak to 13 games - its longest home streak since winning 19 straight from 1950-53 (teams coached by Clarence "Biggie" Munn). The 13-game home winning streak is the fifth longest in school history (school-record 23-game home winning streak from 1903-07; teams coached by Chester Brewer).
Kirk Cousins recorded his sixth 200-yard passing game of the season and 21st of his career, completing 23-of-34 throws for 296 yards and two touchdowns. . . . Cousins, the winningest quarterback in MSU history, improved to 23-11 in 34 career starts. . . . On the final drive of the first half, Cousins went 6-of-8 passing for 66 yards, including a 2-yard TD toss to fullback Todd Anderson on a first-and-goal play. He completed passes to four different receivers during that eight-play, 74-yard drive that last 52 seconds.
B.J. Cunningham recorded his fifth 100-yard receiving game of the season and seventh of his career, with three receptions for 104 yards. . . . His season-long 69-yard reception from Kirk Cousins in the first quarter helped set up MSU's first touchdown.
Keshawn Martin had a season-high seven receptions for 77 yards.
Le'Veon Bell accounted for a career-best 165 all-purpose yards. . . . Bell rushed 15 times for a season-high 96 yards and two touchdowns. He scored on TD runs of 1 and 35 yards. . . . Bell also had five catches for career-best 38 yards. His five receptions also matched his career high (5 vs. Notre Dame, 2011). . . . In addition, Bell returned one kickoff for 31 yards.
Todd Anderson scored his first career touchdown on a 2-yard reception from Kirk Cousins with five seconds left in the first half that gave MSU a 21-17 halftime lead. It was Anderson's fourth career reception (25 yards)
For the second-straight week, William Gholston led the Spartans in tackles with 14, including 1.5 for losses (5 yards). He also forced a fumble against the Gophers. . . . In his last two games (vs. Nebraska and Minnesota), Gholston has recorded 29 tackles, with 3.0 resulting in losses (12 yards) including 1.5 sacks (8 yards).
Isaiah Lewis recorded a career-high 12 tackles and his first career pass break-up.
Trenton Robinson recorded a career-best two interceptions. His first interception (late in the third quarter) helped set up Dan Conroy's game-tying 40-yard field goal (24-24) early in the fourth quarter. With 10 seconds left, his second pickoff at the MSU 23-yard line iced the game. . . . Robinson now has nine career interceptions - just one short of cracking MSU's all-time Top 10 in that category.
Four of Mike Sadler's five punts (35.0-yard average) were placed inside Minnesota's 20-yard line.
