Women's Tennis Concludes Day 2 of Regional Play

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Michigan State women's tennis team wrapped up the second day of play at the ITA Second Chance Regional tournament. Two Spartans advanced to the finals round in their individual singles brackets. Freshman Julianne Gruber and sophomore Katarina Lingl were the two MSU players that will play to win their brackets tomorrow. One doubles victory was also recorded today for MSU.
Gruber topped Shustov of Western Michigan, 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the final round of singles play in the Red bracket. Lingl topped Kurer of Western Michigan 6-1, 6-1 to advance to the finals match. In the Singles Black bracket, freshman Hilary Hager fell to Aleck 6-3, 6-2, after having a bye the previous round. In Singles Guillikson play, junior Nicole Herzog fell in a close match to Bailey of Western Michigan, 5-7, 6-4, (6). Junior Michaela Silesova was topped by Soule of Western Michigan, 6-4, 7-5 in the Singles NIU bracket.
In the Huskies doubles draw Lingl and Gruber notched a win over Emeralda and Grinvalde of CSU, 8-3. Silesova and Herzog fell to Rogers and McLuaghlin of NIU, 8-5 in the Victor E. doubles bracket.
The Spartans wrap up play tomorrow. Results will be posted on msuspartans.com
