Women's Tennis Wraps up Day One of Regional Play

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Michigan State women's tennis team completed its first day of the ITA Second Chance Regional Tournament in Rockford, Illinois on Friday. During the first day of competition, which is hosted by Northern Illinois University, the Spartans notched two singles victories and one doubles win.
In Gullikson Singles play, Juan Rosalia Tejoprayitno of CSU topped junior Nicole Herzog 6-2, 4-6 (9). During Singles Black play sophomore Katarina Lingl won her match by a score of 6-3, 6-1 over Aleck of Western Michigan. Freshman Hilary Hager fell to Ilse Pacheco of NIU 6-4, 6-4. NIU's Nelle Youel defeated junior Michaela Silesova by a score of 7-6, 5-7, (5) in the NIU Singles bracket. Freshman Julianne Gruber dropped Haley Dekkinga of NIU, 6-1, 7-6 in Singles Red competition.
The Spartans only had one doubles pairing compete for them on the first day of competition. Silesova and Herzog topped Lobel and Bauer of Wisconsin, 9-7, in the Victor E. Doubles Bracket. Gruber and Lingl had a bye the first round in the Huskies Doubles Draw and will face Emeralda and Grinvalde of CSU tomorrow.
The Spartans return to the court tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 22nd. Results will be posted on msuspartans.com.
