AMES, Iowa - Kurt Schneider of the Michigan State track & field team concluded action on Friday, Jan. 28 at the Bill Bergan Invitational hosted by Iowa State. Schneider ended the heptathlon in fourth place with a score of 5380, 265 points behind Brock Spandl of Minnesota in first.
"Kurt showed great poise and did a nice job of executing the plan through all seven events," said assistant coach Chris Bostwick. "To score over 5300 points in his first ever heptathlon, and first time ever pole vaulting, is a very good start for any multi-event athlete."
The second day of action began with the 60-meter hurdles. Schneider stood strong in the event as he placed fourth with a time of 8.54.
Schneider and the rest of the multi-event specialists proceeded to the pole vault. Vaulting for the first time in his career, Schneider wound up fifth overall with a height of 3.86m.
The Lake Orion, Mich., native was the only individual, other than Spandl, to win an individual event during day two when he was tops in the 1000-meter run. Schneider clocked in a time of 2:44.57 to win the event.
Schneider entered the day in second overall with 3127 points to trail Joey Schwecke of Minnesota (3186).
MSU returns its full roster to action on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 4-5 when it travels to Notre Dame, Ind., for the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame.
