Track & Field Concludes Competition at Kentucky Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Michigan State track & field program concluded action Saturday evening at the Kentucky Invitational hosted by the Wildcats in Lexington, Ky. Zach Hill impressed in his first collegiate event with a first-place toss of 18.24m in the men's shot put.
Hill was joined by four teammates who also recorded top-10 performances in the event. Aaron Ide was fourth with a 16.82m and Brad Wentzel was fifth with a 16.24m toss. Jay Gillespie and Lonnie Pugh rounded out the MSU throwers in the event with tosses of 15.92m (seventh) and 15.89m (eighth), respectively.
Ashley Lawrence was the top female thrower in the shot put, turning in a mark of 14.43m. Catherine Daniels placed ninth in the event with a toss of 14.09m.
Codi Mattix led the male jumpers on the day as he tied for second in the pole vault with a height of 5.05m.
Kurt Schneider was the top long jumper for MSU with his leap of 6.94m.
Jessica Scherting led all female high jumpers for the Green and White as she placed eighth in the event with a height of 1.71m.
In the 1-meter run, the male runners occupied positions second through fourth. Leading the way was Ben Miller with his second-place time of 4:11.15. Aaron Simoneau was just behind Miller in third (4:11.82) and Joe Dimambro was fourth (4:12.13). Isaiah VanDoorne and Spencer Beatty finished sixth and ninth, respectively, giving MSU five of the top-10 runners in the event. VanDoorne clocked in at 4:12.90 and Beatty finished in 4:14.10.
Rebekah Smeltzer was the top female runner in the event as she finished the event in sixth with a time of 4:54.59. Tiffany Evans joined Smeltzer in seventh with her 4:56.49 mark.
Yury Ratomski led the sprinters in both the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Ratomski opened the day in the 60-meter with a time of 6.82 for third place. He followed up his performance later in the day with a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter, clocking in at 21.55. Todd Atchison joined Ratomski in the 200-meter with a ninth-place time of 22.45.
Erica Mann was the top female sprinter with her time of 7.56 in the 60-meter dash, good enough for eighth place. Mann also clocked in at 24.77 for 10th place in the 200-meter dash.
Leslie Aririguzo finished the 60-meter hurdles with a 10th-place time of 8.56.
Amelia Bannister finished third in the 800-meter run with her time of 2:12.05. Joe Banyai was the top MSU male in the event as he finished in 1:52.67 for fifth overall.
In the 3000-meter run, Carlie Green and Josh McAlary each placed sixth in their respective heats. Green turned in a time of 9:38.77 while McAlary clocked in at 8:18.91.
In MSU's final event of the weekend, Mann, Jaelynn Pryor, Noriah Williams and Alysson Bodenbach turned in a time of 3:53.17 in the 4x400-meter relay. Together, the MSU quad placed 10th overall.
The Spartans will be back in action next weekend for the Notre Dame Invite on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 22-23.
