EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State redshirt freshman Ryan Jones received his second Freshman All-America honor this week when Ping! Baseball named him to its Freshman All-America third team. Jones was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team last week.
Jones is the first Spartan to earn Ping! Baseball Freshman All-America honors since Chris Roberts in 2007.
The 2010 Big Ten Freshman of the Year and second-team All-Big Ten selection, Jones finished the regular season second on the team and sixth in the conference with a .380 batting average. The Haslett, Mich., native also collected 73 hits, including 12 doubles and four triples, while driving in 37 runs. He ranked ninth in the league with 140 assists and teamed up with shortstop Jonathan Roof to create one of the best middle infields in the Big Ten.
