EUGENE, Ore. - The Michigan State track & field team concluded action at the second day of action at the NCAA Championships on Thursday, June 10. Competing at the track & field's highest collegiate competition were freshmen Josh McAlary in the 1,500m run and Beth Rohl in the hammer throw.
McAlary, competing in heat two of the 1,500m, got off to a slow start in the race, falling to the trail of the pack. However, the Spartan freshman stormed back in the final lap to finish eighth in the heat. McAlary ended the race in 13th overall, narrowly missing a bid to the finals as a top-12 finisher. McAlary, the top overall freshman finisher, turned in a time of 3:44.96.
Rohl, a day after becoming the school's first ever All-American in the discus throw, closed out her NCAA appearance in the hammer throw. Rohl was unable to record a legal throw, however she was the lone freshman to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the event.
The Spartans will close out action at the NCAA Championships with junior Emily MacLeod, competing in the 5,000m run. MacLeod `s race will begin at 6:40 p.m. PT, and will be aired live on CBS College Sports.
