Track & Field Continues Action at NCAA Regionals

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Michigan State track & field team continued action at the NCAA Preliminary Rounds held on the campus of North Carolina A&T today (May 28) in Greensboro, N.C. Freshmen Keenan Michael and Beth Rohl qualified for the NCAA Championships which will be held two weeks after their performances in their respective events.
Michael placed third in heat two of the 400m hurdles with a career-best time of 50.65 to qualify for nationals as the ninth overall runner in the event. Rohl placed seventh in the hammer throw with a personal-best toss of 57.44m. Both Spartans were the top freshman finishers in their respective events in the East Region.
Michael entered the weekend ranked 15th in the event, while Rohl was 30th in the hammer throw.
Junior Erica Mann improved seven positions from her seeding in the 100m dash when she turned in a 22nd-place time of 11.71.
The greatest individual improvement from ones pre-regional seeding was senior Katie Shaw in the pole vault. Shaw posted a height of 3.60m to place 34th in the event to improve nine places.
Improving their regional rankings by one placing was junior Charelise Davis and freshman Kurt Schneider. Davis placed 33rd in the 200m dash with a time of 24.11, while Schneider was 15th in the high jump with a leap of 2.11m.
The men and women 3,000m steeplechase events have been postponed until tomorrow (May 29) due to weather.
MSU will close out action at the regionals on Saturday, May 29 when competition is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m. ET on the campus of the North Carolina A&T.
