
Men's Golf Finishes Seventh at 2010 Big Ten Championship

INDEPENDENCE, Minn. - The Michigan State men's golf team posted its best round of the tournament and the third lowest on the day, moving up into seventh as the 2010 Big Ten Championship concluded on Sunday at Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minn. The Spartans shot a 6-over par 290 today to finish the 72 holes at 53-over par 1189 (298-291-310-290).

Illinois held on to win the Big Ten title, despite a final round push by Iowa. The Illini finished with at 21-over par 1157, three shots ahead of the Hawkeyes. Northwestern was third, six stroke shy of Illinois. Northwestern's David Lipsky took medalist honors with a 3-under par 281.
In his Big Ten debut, freshman James Ross paced the Spartans, tying for 16th at 10-over par 294 (75-68-78-73). Ross led MSU and tied for eighth in the field with 11 birdies over his 72 holes. He was also seventh this weekend, playing the par-5s at 3-under par.
Senior Jack Newman wrapped up his Big Ten Championship play in a tie for 24th at 13-over par 297 (71-75-79-72). Newman posted 17 pars in his round of 72 today. Overall, he was tied for sixth with 49 pars for the championship.
Sophomore Dave Ellis tied Newman for the low MSU round today with a 1-over par 72 to move him up into a tie for 32nd at 18-over par 302 (80-75-75-72). Ellis was fourth overall this weekend on the par-3s in the field, playing them at even par. Classmate Chris Mory (74-74-78-76) was among a group tied with Ellis in 32nd. Freshman Matthew Moseley rounded out the MSU golfers, tying for 42nd at 23-over par 207 (78-74-82-73).
