Track & Field Concludes Action at Sun Angel Classic

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Michigan State track & field team concluded action at the Sun Angel Classic hosted by Arizona State on Saturday (April 10). Overall, the Spartans captured five individual crowns in the non-scored event.
"I was really proud of everyone this weekend," said director of track & field and cross country Walt Drenth. "Although we won several events, I was looking more at the marks achieved. I felt that we had some of the top collegiate times in most of the events all across the board. Overall, I think this may be one of the best outdoor meets collectively since 2007."
Beth Rohl was the first Spartan to win her event when she posted a distance of 52.23m in the hammer throw open division on Friday (April 9).
Erica Mann placed second in the 100m open with a time of 11.79, while Alysson Bodenbach also finished second in the 400m open (55.03). Charelise Davis was third in the 200m open when she crossed the finish line in 23.91.
Emily MacLeod placed fourth in the 1500m premiere division with personal-best time of 4:19.67.
MSU saw Rohl (14.34m), Ashley Lawrence (14.09m) and Shatora Lewis (13.81m) occupy the second through fourth spots in the shot put open.
Ashley Smith placed fourth in the pole vault open with a height of 3.92m.
The 4x100m relay team of Leslie Aririguzo, Mann, Amelia Bannister and Davis recorded a first-place time of 45.30 in the open division.
Finishing first in the long jump was Durant Crum (7.02m), while Kurt Schneider placed second in the high jump with a height of 2.11m.
Isaiah VanDoorne placed first in the 5000m open with a time of 14:10.15.
Josh McAlary (3:47.11) recorded a first-place finish in the 1500m fast, while Joe Dimambro (3:50.90) was second in the 1500m open.
Stephen Humes turned in a time of 1:50.56 in the 800m open for second place.
Placing third with a time of 9:04.07 in the 3000m steeplechase open was Aaron Simoneau.
The Spartans continue the outdoor season when they travel to Bloomington, Ind. for the Indiana Invitational next weekend (April 16-17).
