Gymnastics Travels to Ohio State for Big Ten Championships

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The No. 25 Michigan State gymnastics team (12-6, 3-3 Big Ten) enters the 2010 Big Ten Championships fresh off a 194.975-193.575 win over Pittsburgh in its season finale. MSU enters the Championships looking for its first team championship in program history, and first individual title since 2006 when Chayla Hill tied for first on the vault.
The Spartans enter the weekend with a RQS of 194.950, good enough for 25th in the nation and fourth in the Big Ten. MSU's high score of 195.950 was recorded at UCLA on March 14.
Vault
MSU currently is 27th on the vault in the nation with score of 48.920. In the Big Ten, the Spartans are currently fourth on the event. The Green and White posted its high score of the year last weekend against Pittsburgh when it tallied a 49.075.
Senior Rochelle Robinson is the top vaulter for the Spartans on the year. Robinson is currently tied for 41st in the nation with a 9.855, a score that is also seventh in the conference. Robinson's season high of 9.950 was posted at Iowa.
Uneven Bars
The Spartans are currently 27th in the nation with a 48.815 mark on the bars. Michigan State's enters the championships ranked sixth in the conference. MSU posted its high score at UCLA with a 49.050.
Senior Rochelle Robinson leads the team on the bars with her 37th ranked score of 9.850. Robinson's score also ranks her seventh in the conference on the event. Robinson recorded her season-best score of 9.900 versus Ohio State.
Balance Beam
The Green and White has rebounded on the beam this season, after struggling on the event in 2009. The Spartans have gone on to make the beam their strongest event, ranking 17th with a 48.921, a mark that is also third in the conference. MSU's high score this season was posted at UCLA when it recorded a 49.075.
Senior Nicole Curler and junior Kelsey Morley currently lead the team individually on the event, tying for 25th nationally with a 9.850. That mark also ranks both Spartans tied for fifth in the conference heading into the championships. Curler posted her best score of the season of 9.900 twice with the most recent against Oklahoma. Morley's season-best (9.875) was at UCLA.
Floor Exercise
Michigan State currently boasts the 28th-best score with a 48.920. MSU is also fourth in the conference on the floor. The Spartans posted their season-best score (49.050) the first weekend of the year against Penn State, West Virginia and Western Michigan.
Senior Nicole Curler tops the team on the floor with a tie for 56th with a 9.845. Curler's mark is good enough for eighth in the conference this season. Curler posted her season-best score of 9.875 the opening weekend of competition.
2009 Big Ten Championships Recap
The Michigan State gymnastics team finished sixth with a score of 195.650 at the 2009 Big Ten Championships. Michigan won the Big Ten team title with a score of 197.075.
Next Up for MSU
The Spartans await to see where they will travel to for the NCAA Regionals on April 10. Institutions hosting regionals include the University of Kentucky (Lexington, Ky.), the University of Utah (Salt Lake City, Utah), Penn State University (University Park, Pa.), the University of Missouri (Columbia, Mo.), West Virginia University (Morgantown, W. Va.) and UCLA (Los Angeles, Calif.).
