EAST LANSING, Mich. - In capturing her second career all-around crown, freshman Shanti Teike led the No. 22 Michigan State gymnastics team (9-4, 3-3) past New Hampshire by a score of 194.175 to 192.400 on Saturday, Feb. 20, in Jenison Field House. Teike's score of 39.100 is a personal best mark for the freshman in the all-around.
MSU saw strong performances on the vault with seniors Rochelle Robinson and Nicole Curler finishing second and third, respectively. Robinson recorded a score of 9.800 while Curler posted a 9.775 mark. UNH edged the Spartans by a score of 48.725 to 48.600. However, MSU competed on the event with five gymnasts.
On the bars, junior Kelsey Morley and Curler tied for first with scores of 9.775. Robinson finished third on the event with a 9.750. MSU topped the Wildcats by a score of 48.675 to 48.350.
Continuing her successful day on the beam was Teike who posted a career-high score of 9.825, which tied for first with Morley. Sophomore Jackie Berg finished third on beam with a 9.800. The Spartans recorded a team score of 48.900 to New Hampshire's 46.675.
Senior Emily Lopatofsky led all gymnasts on the floor when she tied her personal best with a 9.900 mark. Teike also tied her personal best when she recorded a 9.850, to finish second. Taryn LaFountain placed third with her score of 9.825. UNH led in the team category as it recorded a 48.650 to MSU's 48.000.
Teike's all-around score edged Curler, who scored a 38.350. Steinberg of UNH rounded out the top-three finishers with her 38.250 score, topping Morley by 0.050.
The Spartans remain home Friday, Feb. 26, when they welcome Oklahoma into Jenison Field House at 6 p.m.
