
Jacob Jarzen Named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week

EAST LANSING, Mich. - As announced by the conference office today, Michigan State swimming & diving sophomore Jacob Jarzen has been named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week. The Jacksonville, Ill., native, earns the honor for the first time in his career after placing first in three events at the Georgia Tech Invitational this past weekend.
The reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Year posted three NCAA provisional times, with the first being in the 100-yard butterfly with a mark of 47.22, which currently ranks first in the nation. Jarzen continued his success after finishing tops in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke with times of 47.82 and 1:44.20, respectively. His 100-yard backstroke time ranks second in the nation, while his 200-yard time ranks third nationally.
Jarzen's time of 1:44.20 ranks first in Michigan State history. He was the only swimmer in his three winning events to record NCAA provisional standard times.
This is the first weekly honor for the Spartans since Dec. 15, 2009 when Kevin Puskaric was MSU's recipent.
After having Thanksgiving weekend off, the Spartans return to action Friday-Saturday, Dec. 3-4 when select members will travel to the Eastern Michigan Invitational. Other members will travel to Columbus, Ohio for the USA Short Course Nationals Friday-Sunday, Dec. 3-5.
