Women's Tennis Opens Action at Wildcat Invitational

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Michigan State women's tennis team opened action at the Wildcat Invitational on Friday, Oct. 8 hosted by Northwestern. Earning a win in doubles action was the tandem of Marina Bohrer and Whitney Wilson as they defeated Majerick and Escobar of Iowa, 8-6.
The tandem also faced Morginia and Popova of South Carolina, falling in a tough 9-7 match. Olga Chernova and Michaela Silesova partnered to take on Poggensee-Wei and Harazin of Iowa, however the Spartans were unable to top the Hawkeyes, falling 8-4. Silesova then partnered with Katarina Lingl in doubles action, but the tandem fell to Tsertsvadze and Critescu of Illinois-Chicago, 8-4.
In singles action, Silesova faces Brittany parks of Oklahoma, however the Spartan was unable to rally as she fell 6-4, 6-4. Wilson faced Alexa Palen of Minnesota, falling in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. Lingl lost to Christiana Raymond of DePaul, 6-2, 7-5, while Chernova lost Jessica Young of Iowa, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (4). Bohrer also competed in singles action, falling to Selma Salkovic of DePaul, 7-6 (7), 6-3.
The Spartans resume action tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Northwestern.
