Women's Tennis Completes Day Two of Wildcat Invite

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team wrapped up the second day of play at the Wildcat Invitational Tournament with a total of four singles victories. The tournament is hosted by Northwestern University.
In the flight A draws, sophomore Michaela Silesova recorded the Spartans' first singles victory of the weekend when she downed Samantha Kaneta of DePaul, 6-2, 6-0. She advanced to the next round by default and faced April Kerr of Western Michigan. Silesova prevailed by a score of 7-6 (4), 6-4. In flight B draws, senior Whitney Wilson posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Maria Nivia of Western Michigan for her first singles win on the weekend.
Flight C draws saw freshman Katarina Lingl fall to Angela Chupa of Wisconsin in a close match that ended with a score of 7-6 (7), 6-3. Lingl then participated in the flight B draws when she matched up against Natalie Edell of Northwestern. Lingl recorded a hard earned 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over her opponent. Freshman Olga Chernova fell in her flight D singles match to Elena Chernyakova of Northwestern, 6-2, 6-2. Freshman Marina Bohrer was defeated by Maggie Remynse of Western Michigan, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2. Bohrer then fell again to Gia McKnight of DePaul, 7-5, 7-6 (0).
The pairing of freshmen Olga Chernova and Marina Bohrer fell to Renault and Spilca of Minnesota 8-4 in doubles action. Chernova then paired with Silesova in a match against Moccia and Remynse of Western Michigan. The Spartan duo fell to the Broncos, 8-3.
