East Lansing, Mich. - Michigan State improved to 2-1-0 in Big Ten play and 7-3-1 overall with a 2-0 victory over Purdue on Sunday at DeMartin Stadium. Laura Heyboer scored both tallies for the home team, which swept its Big Ten weekend set on its home field, with twin 2-0 scores over Indiana and Purdue.

Heyboer's three goals on the weekend gives her a total of 37 in her career, which moves her into third place on the all-time list. The school record of 39 is held by Michele Wise (1986-89). She now has 9o points in her career, which also puts her in third, seven points behind Wise's record of 99. Heyboer is midway through her junior season.
The Spartans took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Heyboer at 22:36. Hannah Peterson fed Heyboer the ball at the top right corner of the box, and the junior lifted the ball over the outstretched arms of the goalkeeper for her seventh goal of the season and second of the weekend.
Flietstra made a diving save on a Katie Leinart header with 14 minutes remaining in the first half to preserve a 1-0 lead. Flietstra made five saves on the afternoon, and put up her eigth shutout of the season. It was the 15th of her career, which puts her alone in fourth place in the MSU annals. Her eighth shutout of the season puts her in a tie for second in that category in a single season, tied with Erin O'Connell (1994) and current assistant coach Stacy Heller in 2002. Heller owns the school record of 12, which she set in 2005.
Heyboer added a second goal in the 83rd minute, taking a pass from Olivia Stander up the left side, eluding a defender at the left side of the box, and burying her shot into the right-side netting.
