Women's Tennis Concludes Day Two of Regional Action

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team competed in two different regional tournaments today (Oct. 22) where they recorded a total of two doubles victories and one singles win. Senior Whitney Wilson and freshman Marina Bohrer were the two representatives for the Green and White in the USTA/ITA Midwest Regional tournament that is being held in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Wilson and Bohrer recorded their sixth win as doubles partners when they downed Jeremie Benjamin and Carolina Castro Cota of Akron, 8-2. The pair then faced Abu Mushrefova/Hamilton of Northwestern where they were defeated 9-7.
Wilson fell in her second singles match of the tournament when she was defeated by Margarita Sadovnikova of Youngstown State, 6-3, 7-5 in the singles qualifying round. Bohrer will kick off singles action by taking on Polina Guimarares of the University of Toledo in the singles main draw tomorrow.
In the ITA Second Chance Tournament that is being hosted by Western Michigan, freshman Katarina Lingl was topped by Dian Mayasari of Chicago State, 6-4, 6-1. Also in singles action in Kalamazoo, Mich., sophomore Michaela Silesova battled it out with Kelly Barry of Marquette for a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory.
Lingl partnered with red shirt sophomore Dana Guentert to down Dekkinga and Phillips of Northern Illinois University, 8-5 in the doubles draw. The duo then fell to Denny and Kerr of Western Michigan, 8-4.
