Green-White World Series Recap

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State baseball team finished its Green-White World Series last weekend, with the White claiming all five games in the series.
The White won the first two games of the series, 6-3 and 7-5. For a recap on those games, please click here.
In game three, the White shut out the Green, 2-0, led by Trey Popp's five scoreless innings on the mound, which included four strikeouts. Popp allowed six hits and one walk. Taylor Robson pitched an inning of relief before Bryce Jenny came on for the save in the seventh.
Offensively, Ryan Jones had two hits, a run scored, a stolen base and an RBI, while Andy Johnson had a double and run scored.
For the Green, freshman David Garner pitched 5.2 innings, giving up three hits and two runs, one earned. Garner fanned two and walked just one batter. On offense, Jeff Holm and John Martinez each had two hits. Tony Wieber stole two bases and also had one hit.
The White came away with a 6-5 victory in game four. Down 5-0, the White posted a six-run sixth inning in the comeback win. Joel Fisher tied it with a run-scoring double and scored the winning run on an Andy Johnson sacrifice fly.
Chad Nielsen picked up the win on the mound by hurling two innings of scoreless relief. Cody Huge got the save with a scoreless seventh.
Wieber led the Green with a hit, a run scored, two walks and two stolen bases. Mike Theodore started and pitched three scoreless innings with six K's.
To complete the five-game sweep, the White won again on Sunday, 6-5, with a three-run ninth inning comeback. Brandon Eckerle had three hits and a stolen base, Torsten Boss had two hits and scored a run, and Jared Hook collected two hits, including a two-run triple that tied the game in the ninth. Fisher doubled home Hook for the game winner. Andy Johnson also posted two hits in the win.
Robson earned his second win of the series with two innings of relief, striking out three.
Jordan Keur had three hits, a run and an RBI for the Green, while Andrew Carpenter and Wieber each had two hits. Holm also had two hits, including a triple, and had three RBIs and a run scored.
The Spartan baseball team, who also posted a 4-2 exhibition win over Notre Dame on Sept. 18, will now look to the spring season as it prepares for the Big Ten-Big East Challenge Feb. 18-20, 2011.
