
Women's Tennis Concludes Day Two of Wolverine Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team completed the second day of the Wolverine Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 2. Saturday's play included two rounds of doubles and one round of singles. The Spartans finished the day with a total of three singles victories.
Freshman Valentina Rusakova posted a victory for the Green and White when she defeated Chelsea Utting of Marquette, 6-3, 6-4. It was Rusakova's third win on the weekend. Senior Whitney Wilson won her singles match of the tournament when she defeated Maria Nivia from Western Michigan by a score of 6-4 in both sets. Freshman Katarina Lingl faced off against Remi Martin from Purdue, prevailing 6-0, 6-2.
Sophomore Marina Bohrer suffered her first loss of the tournament when she fell to Same Critier of Michigan, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. Freshman Olga Chernova recorded a loss against Michelle Sulahain from Michigan, 6-2, 6-3. Freshman Michaela Silesova lost to Kar Wig from Michigan by a score of 6-3, 6-1.
The Spartans struggled in doubles play, failing to post a victory in any of their doubles matches. The duo of Bohrer and Wilson lost to both Sulahian and Crister of Michigan, 9-7 and Dushinka and Martin of Purdue, 8-2. Silesova and Rusakova suffered a loss to Kerr and Denny of Western Michigan, 9-8. Lingl and Chernova were defeated by Golder and Tirimurti of Purdue, 8-2.
The Wolverine Invitational will conclude tomorrow, Sunday Oct. 3 with one round of doubles and one round of singles. Action begins at 10 a.m. in Ann Arbor, Mich. at the Varsity Tennis Center.
