EAST LANSING, Mich. - No. 21 Michigan State men's soccer team got another mid-week victory today in a 5-0 decision over Western Michigan at DeMartin Stadium. The Spartans, led by two goals and an assist by junior Brent Rosendall, improve to 9-3-0 on the season and remain unbeaten in six home contests.

The five goals were the most scored by the Spartans since they posted a 6-0 shutout against the Broncos on Sept. 24, 2006.
Cold and rainy weather conditions didn't stop the Spartans from coming out aggressively in the first half. Junior Cyrus Saydee put MSU on the scoreboard only five minutes into the game. Spencer Thompson sent the ball to the right side where Rosendall passed back across to the middle to Saydee, who beat the goalie on the right. This was Saydee's third goal of the season.
The second score of the game didn't come until the 64th minute of play. Mark Barone launched a corner kick from the right side into the middle of the box, where Rosendall headed the corner out of the air and found the back of the net.
An unassisted goal by Jeff Ricondo advanced the Spartan lead to 3-0 only five minutes later. The senior's third goal of the season was a taken from the top of the box off a bad clear by WMU and into the upper right corner of the net.
The fourth and fifth scores of the game were both long-field breakaways that beat the goalkeeper on the right side. Rosendall pushed MSU up by four in the 80th minute of play after a midfield pass from Jeff Ricondo found him streaking down the middle of the field past the last defender. Freshman Tim Kruetz tallied his first career goal two minutes later, as he took a long pass from Wesley Curtis, and separated himself from the last WMU defender.
Senior Avery Steinlage and redshirt junior Jeremy Clark combined for the Spartans' sixth shutout of the season. Steinlage had six saves in the game.
Western Michigan (7-4-1) played the final 73:18 a man-down after Yilson Asani was issued a red card.
The Spartans remain home this weekend, when they return to Big Ten play against Wisconsin on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 2:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.
