Women's Tennis Concludes Wildcat Invitational

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Michigan State women's tennis team wrapped up the Wildcat Invitational today (Oct. 10) with two singles victories. The Spartans completed the tournament that was hosted by Northwestern University with a total of seven singles wins and one doubles victory. Freshman Olga Chernova tallied two of MSU's singles wins of the day.
In flight C singles, Chernova recorded her first singles victory of the tournament when she fought hard for a 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (6) win over Ariel Morton from LSU. Chernova then prevailed over Christina Harazin of Iowa, 6-4, 7-6 (2).
In flight D singles, freshman Marina Bohrer recorded the third victory for the Spartans. Bohrer downed Kaitlin Burns from LSU 6-3, 6-0 for her first win of the tournament. In flight B singles, senior Whitney Wilson fell to Angela Chupa of Wisconsin, 6-0, 7-5. Freshman Katarina Lingl faced Maria Nivia of Western Michigan, falling 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
The Spartans conclude fall play next weekend (Oct. 21-26) when they travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. to participate in the ITA Midwest Regional Championships.
