All of MSU's scoring came in the first half, from its dynamic duo of frontrunners Olivia Stander and Laura Heyboer. Stander had a goal and an assist on the afternoon to even her with Heyboer atop the scoring chart, each with six goals and two assists for 14 points. The pair has accounted for 12 of the Spartans' 15 goals this season.
The Spartans got on the scoreboard in the 23rd minute, with Stander taking a cross from Annie Steinlage and pushing it past Shannon Flower for her sixth goal of the season.
Heyboer made an impressive play in the 28th minute to give MSU a 2-0 lead. She received the ball from the left side from Stander, and with the defender on her hip and her back to the net, she pivoted on her left foot and connected with the ball with her right, fooling the keeper as the ball went into the net on the right side.
MSU had a total of 12 shots in the game, compared to eight for Indiana. Jill Flietstra recorded her seventh shutout of the season with a four-save effort, while her counterpart, Flower, made three saves.
The Spartans will be back in action on Sunday at DeMartin Stadium, hosting Purdue in a noon kickoff.
