FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Michigan State men's soccer team played Evansville to a 0-0 tie in an exhibition match on Thursday (Aug. 27) in Fort Wayne, Ind.
"I thought we played pretty well in the first half but the second half wasn't our strongest," said MSU head coach Damon Rensing. "I thought we held together well defensively but we need to do a better job of creating scoring chances."
Spartan goalkeeper Avery Steinlage started the game for MSU and played the first 60 minutes while Jeremy Clark played the final 30 minutes and kept the game scoreless with a save on a penalty kick.
"Both goalkeepers played very well," said Rensing. "I also thought Colin (Givens) did a nice job of leading the backfield and Domenic Barone had a good work rate for us up top."
The Spartans will play their second and final exhibition game on Saturday (Aug. 29) when they take on IPFW at 6 p.m. in Fort Wayne.
