WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Sophomore kevin Puskaric swam a 54.21 and took sixth place in the 100 breaststroke and was the top Spartan finisher on day two of the Big Ten Championships on Friday (Feb. 27) in West Lafayette, Ind.
"Kevin was close to a varsity record and had a pretty good swim," said Gianiodis.
The Spartans' 200 medley relay team suffered an unfortunate break when junior Jon LaRocque's suit suffered a tear and slowed him down. The team of LaRocque, Schmitt, Poteete and Massman finished with a time of 1:29.27 which was good for eighth place.
"It's like we can't catch a break right now and Jon's suit ripping really hurt us," said MSU head coach Matt Gianiodis. "But, I'm encouraged about tomorrow."
Individually, LaRocque took 12th in the 100 backstroke (48.94).
MSU's 800 freestyle relay team of Sho Koba, Mark Schramm, Colby Ward and Matt Massman swam a 6:39.68.
Poteete touched the wall in 48.36 to place 15th in the 100 butterfly.
Saturday will be the final day of the conference championships with prelims beginning at noon and the finals taking place at 7 p.m.
