Women's Tennis Swept at ITA Kickoff Weekend

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The No. 66 Michigan State women's tennis team concluded play at the ITA Indoor Kickoff Weekend as it fell to No. 66 Saint Mary's College, 4-2, at Marks Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif. The Spartans were able to get off to a quick start to begin the consolation match, picking up two of the three doubles matches over Saint Mary's, earning the doubles point. However, Saint Mary's was able to rally, picking up wins in four singles matches to clinch the 4-2 victory. The final match was suspended after St. Mary's clinched the win.
"Winning the doubles point was a step in the right direction," said head coach Simone Jardim. "We are getting better, but again, there is still work to be done."
The No. 48 doubles tandem of senior Stephanie Kebler (Okemos, Mich.) and sophomore Lindsey Lonergan (Cincinnati, Ohio) was able to defeat Nienke Strijbis and Anna Chikhikvishvili of Saint Mary's, 8-6. Clinching the doubles point for the Spartans was the pairing of senior Ana Milosavljevic (Johannesburg, South Africa) and freshman Elena Ivanova (Moscow, Russia). Milosavljevic and Ivanova were able to defeat Saint Mary's No. 3 doubles tandem, Molly Aloia and Marah Calvo, 8-6.
"I am confident that we will continue to work hard and soon the results will come." Jardim added.
The Spartans return home for action on Friday, February 6, as they will play host to both Toledo and Detroit Mercy at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
