Gymnastics Finishes Third At Ohio State Quad

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Michigan State gymnastics team finished third in a quad meet at Ohio State Saturday evening at St. John Arena. The Spartans totaled 194.500, their best score of the season, while No. 13 Missouri placed first with a 195.375, No 15 Illinois recorded a 194.575 and host No. 14 Ohio State rounded out the field with 193.825. Sophomore Kelsey Morley (Elkhart, Ind.) highlighted the performance, participating in the all-around for the first time in her career, tallying a 38.725.
Opening on balance beam, Morley scored a 9.800, her highest mark so far this season to help the Spartans earn a season-high 48.650 on the apparatus. Morley finished second overall on the event for the seventh time in her career. Junior Nicole Curler (Bay City, Mich.) posted a 9.750 and senior Katlyn Roggensack (Wheaton, Ill.) notched a 9.725 on balance beam.
The Spartans moved to floor exercise for the second rotation, earning a 48.525. Roggensack, Mahoney and junior Emily Lopatofsky (Waymart, Pa.) recorded season-highs in the event. Roggensack led the team with a 9.825 and Mahoney competed on floor for the first time this season. Lopatofsky's 9.825 finished her second overall on the event.
MSU competed on vault in the third rotation, posting a 48.525. Robinson tallied a 9.850 on the apparatus, finishing third overall. Roggensack recorded a 9.825 for the third-straight week, her career high, while Mahoney participated on vault for the first time as a Spartan, tallying a 9.500.
Robinson was the top Spartan finisher on the uneven bars, finishing third overall with a 9.850, and marked the first time this season she placed in the event. Sophomore Nicole Argiros (Livonia, Mich.) posted a 9.800 on uneven bars and Curler notched a 9.750 to lead the Spartans to a season-high 48.800.
The Spartans travel to Chicago, Ill. for the Chicago Style Invite with Illinois, UIC and Boise State on Friday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m.
The meet with Ohio State, Illinois and Missouri was televised by the Big Ten Network and will air on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 1 p.m.
