EAST LANSING, Mich. - Junior forward Lauren Hill scored twice in the Michigan State women's soccer team's 3-0 victory over DePaul Friday afternoon in Chicago. The Spartans are now 2-0 while DePaul falls to 0-3.
"It was nice to have Lauren get out to a good start," said head coach Tom Saxton. "She started up top for us today and really came out on fire. She got a couple of nice passes from her teammates and finished well."
Like last week against Oakland, the Spartans wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard as Hill scored just over two minutes into the game, beating DePaul goalkeeper Kelsey Hoinkes in a race to the ball and knocking it into the net. Her second goal came a little over ten minutes later when she took a pass from Megan Brown out of mid-air and buried it to make it 2-0 Spartans.
Cara Freeman sealed MSU's victory in the 80th minute with a header off a corner kick by Lauren Sinacola to make the final score 3-0.
"Hopefully, today was the sign of a multi-pronged offensive attack with both Lauren and Cara scoring," said Saxton.
MSU goalkeeper Lindsey Wrege finished with 5 saves for her first shutout of the season.
The Spartans will remain on the road for their next match, taking on Bowling Green Sunday at 1 p.m.
