EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's soccer team used another two-goal performance from junior forward Lauren Hill as the Spartans defeated Bowling Green, 3-0, Sunday. MSU is now 3-0 on the season while the Falcons drop to 0-2-1.
Hill got the scoring started in the 20th minute off a pass from freshman Laura Heyboer. Hill netted her team-leading fourth goal of the season just under three minutes into the second half, this time off an assist from Katelin Chaklos.
"Lauren coming alive is a very good sign for us. We're coming together as an attacking team and we're excited," said head coach Tom Saxton.
Cara Freeman recorded the final tally in the 68th minute as Heyboer picked up her second assist of the game.
The Spartans controlled the play for a majority of the game, outshooting the Falcons 16-3. Goalkeeper Lindsey Wrege extended her shutout streak to 169:22 and has surrendered just one goal this season.
"As Sunday games usually are, the circumstances are difficult. It was hot and we played a tough game on Friday. One of the best things today was our depth; we got some good contributions from our bench," said Saxton.
MSU returns home for two games this weekend as it takes on Eastern Michigan, Friday (Sept. 5) at 4 p.m. and Loyola (Ill.) at 1 p.m. on Sunday (Sept. 7). Friday's game against Eastern Michigan will be the Spartans' first game of the season in the new DeMartin Stadium.
