EAST LANSING, Mich. - kevin Puskaric and Marcus Poteete each finished their competitive swimming seasons at the U.S. Olympic Trials recently in Omaha, Neb. Both swimmers didn't make the Olympic squad, but gained valuable experience and improved on their personal-best times during summer competition.
Puskaric, who will enter his sophomore year this fall at MSU, placed 27th of 65 competitors in the 200 meter breast, recording a time of 2:17.64. He also added a 38th place finish (81 swimmers overall) in the 100 meter breast with a mark of 1:03.72.
Poteete, who will compete as a junior this fall for the Spartans, tied for 63rd among 106 swimmers in the 100 meter butterfly. Poteete's time of 54.92 was just a tenth of a second out of 57th place.
The top 16 competitors in the prelims qualified for the semi-finals, while the top eight finishers from there advanced to the finals. There are currently 22 swimmers on the U.S. Olympic Swimming Team roster.
