
Pelbart, Price Represent MSU at NCAA Outdoor Championships

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State track & field program will send two representatives to the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship this week, held June 11-14 at Drake Stadium on the campus of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Junior Sarah Price will make her second-consecutive appearance in the 3000m steeplechase, while freshman Zoe Pelbart makes her NCAA debut in the javelin throw.
"Sarah and Zoe have had a great week of practice and are ready to compete this week at the NCAA Championships," said Michigan State Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Walt Drenth. "Their progress in practice should be indicative of their readiness to advance to the finals and score. We are looking forward to seeing how this week turns out."
Price begins on Wednesday, June 11 with the 3000m steeplechase trials at approximately 8:20 p.m. ET, with the finals set for Friday, June 13 at 8:25 p.m. ET. Meanwhile, Pelbart has the javelin trials on Thursday, June 12 at 3:15 p.m. ET and the finals on Saturday, June 14 at 3:45 p.m. ET.
Price was third in the 3000m steeplechase at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championship on May 31 to advance to the nationals. She posted a new season-best time of 10:35.91, over seven seconds faster than her previous mark. In her NCAA debut last year, Price placed 21st with a personal record of 10:20.87.
Pelbart has placed in the top-five in each of her six competitions this outdoor season, including a fifth place finish at the NCAA Mideast Regional at the end of May to qualify for this week. She had her best toss at the Big Ten Championships, landing a 48.99m (160-9) throw, which is currently ranked 29th in the country.
CBS College Sports Network will be airing live coverage of the NCAA Championships on Friday, June 13 from 8-11 p.m. ET. CBS will also broadcast live coverage of the final day of competition from 4-6 p.m. ET.
