ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Michigan State track & field teams completed day one of competition at the Len Paddock Invite, hosted by the University of Michigan on Friday night. The MSU women's field team set the pace taking regional-qualifying marks in three events, including the hammer throw, pole vault and javelin. Senior Meagan Halliwill recorded her sixth top-three finish of the season in the hammer throw, coming in third with a regional-qualifying launch of 55.60m (182-5).
In addition to Halliwill, freshman Katie Shaw claimed another regional-qualifying mark in the pole vault, finishing second with a leap of 3.85m (12-7 1/2), while freshman Zoe Pelbart hit the regional-qualifying standard for the fourth time this season, taking top honors in the javelin with a toss of 47.70m (156-6).
On the men's side, sophomore Scott Beals finished second in the javelin with a distance of 58.73m (192-8), while sophomore Jake Hamilton finished seventh in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.65.
Michigan State saw two top-10 finishes in the men's hammer throw, as red-shirt junior Kyle Strotbaum placed sixth (55.94m/183-6) and sophomore Anthony Agrusa came in ninth with a distance of 52.92m (173-7).
The Spartans return to action in day two of competition tomorrow at 10 a.m. with the women's discus.
