BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Despite dropping a 23-9 decision at Indiana, three Michigan State wrestlers shined against the Hoosiers Sunday afternoon. Franklin Gomez, Joe Williams and John Murphy each picked up a win. The Spartans dropped to 3-9-0 overall, 0-4-0 in Big Ten action.
Gomez's 8-3 victory over Andrae Hernandez is his 20th of the season and seventh straight. The 133-pounder owns a 20-1 overall record and a perfect 12-0 dual mark, which includes four Big Ten wins.
John Murphy rebounded after a loss at Wisconsin on Friday with a 3-0 shutout over Paul Young. The win was also Murphy's 20th of the season, as he extends his record to 20-13 overall and 5-6 dual mark.
At 197 pounds, Joe Williams also bounced back after a hiccup against the Badgers earlier in the weekend and defeated Joe Fagiano 8-2. Williams boosted his overall record to 22-9 overall, the winningest Spartan on the roster, and 8-3 in duals.
Michigan State will continue action on Feb. 8 and 10, when the Spartans return home to host Ohio State and Northwestern, respectively.
