The Michigan State men's and women's swimming and diving teams will host Ball State on Saturday (Dec. 13) at 2 p.m. at McCaffree Pool at IM West. The men's (1-1) and women's teams (2-3) haven't competed since the TYR Conference Cup in Evanston, Ill., Nov. 21-23 where each took second place. The Cardinals' men's team enters Saturday's meet with a 0-1 mark while the women's team is even on the season at 2-2.
"Our team is looking forward to the meet," said MSU head coach Matt Gianiodis. "It is going to be a little tough in terms of preparation because we've never had a meet the Saturday after final exams so it will be interesting to see how our team does."
The Spartans have already set seven school records this year and have made their mark nationally by posting some of the top times in the nation. Senior Marcus Poteete has posted the nation's 15th-fastest 100 fly time (47.00) and sophomore kevin Puskaric has swam the nation's eighth-quickest 200 breaststroke so far this season (1:57.01). The men's 200 medley relay team, which includes Poteete, Jon LaRocque, Joe Schmitt and Matt Massman currently has the nation's eighth-fastest time (1:27.85).
"It's been a good year for us to this point," said Gianiodis. "We're only halfway through but we'll see if we can get better."
