EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State women's soccer freshman Laura Heyboer was selected to the NSCAA/adidas All-America third team. She is the first player in MSU women's soccer history to garner All-America honors.
"We are all very proud of Laura for this outstanding and well-deserved honor," said MSU head coach Tom Saxton. "With the numbers she put up this year and the impact she had on college soccer, it is certainly a great honor to be rewarded by the NSCAA. I know all her teammates are very happy."
Of the 40 players to earn All-America honors, Heyboer was one of just four freshmen to earn the accolade.
The Hudsonville, Mich., native scored 21 goals and tallied 51 points on her way to being named Big Ten Freshman of the Year as well as Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year. After just one season, she ranks 11th on the MSU all-time goal list and 14th on the MSU career-points chart. She is also one of 15 finalists for the Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Award which is college soccer's most prestigious individual honor.
Heyboer also accomplished a rare feat by also being named a NSCAA/adidas High School All-America this season for the third time. She was eligible since her high school soccer season ended this past summer.
Heyboer also garnered first-team NSCAA/adidas All-Great Lakes Region accolades. Junior midfielder Lauren Sinacola also earned All-Region honors by gaining a spot on the third team.
"It was nice to see both Laura and Lauren recognized as part of the all-region team," Saxton said. "It is a testament to the outstanding season by our program and we're looking forward to similar success in years to come."
The Spartans went 14-7-3 this season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championship.
