
Steinlage Named NSCAA National Player of the Week

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's soccer goalkeeper Avery Steinlage was named National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Player of the Week on Oct. 22. Steinlage became eligible for the award after receiving Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
In two games last week against ranked opponents, the sophomore made a total of 14 saves and posted one shutout. In a 3-1 win over No. 14 UIC, Steinlage stopped four shots and the only goal he surrendered came on a penalty kick. On Saturday (Oct. 18) the Grand Haven, Mich., native made 10 saves and tallied his fourth shutout of the season in a 1-0 win over No. 18 Michigan.
"It's really a team award. Our defense deserves the credit," Steinlage said.
Steinlage earned his fifth shutout of the season on Wednesday (Oct. 22) in a 2-0 win over Cincinnati.
The No. 24 Spartans host Valparaiso at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday (Oct. 26) at DeMartin Stadium.
