Spartan Women Place Fourth, Men Take 14th at Pre-Nationals

The Michigan State women's cross country team raced to a fourth-place finish at the Pre-Nationals meet in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday, Oct. 18. The Spartans, currently ranked No. 9 in the country, took fourth behind No. 1 ranked Washington, 13th-ranked Villanova and No. 4 Minnesota. The 30th ranked men's squad raced to an impressive 14th place finish.
MSU's top runners, seniors Nicole Bush and Lisa Senakiewich, led the Spartans as each finished in the top 20. Bush was the top Spartan finisher on the day, taking sixth place with a time of 20:19.1, while Senakiewich placed 17th with a time of 20:38.7.
Carlie Green (21:17.5), Emily MacLeod (21:28.9) and Sarah Price (21:30.8) were the next Spartans to cross the line as all finished within 13 seconds of each other and placed 50th, 69th and 73rd, respectively. Tiffany Abrahamian and Becky McCormack rounded out the Spartan field, running 21:31.6 and 21:51.6, respectively.
Pat Grosskopf led the Spartan men's effort, running a 24:28.3, which was good for 56th place. He was followed by three Spartans who finished within five seconds of each other as Joe Dimambro (24:42.6), Adam Sprangel (24:44.2) and Shane Knoll (24:47.3) respectively finished 76th, 80th and 83rd.
The Spartans return to action next weekend when they travel to Eastern Michigan for the EMU Open.
Spencer Beatty wasn't far behind, taking 97th place and finishing the race in 24:53.7. Not factoring in the Spartans' team score were Dustin Voss, who ran 25:17.1, and Max Goldak, who turned in a time of 25:53.2.
