EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's swimming and diving team fell 120-66 to Illinois in the first day of a two-day dual meet with the Illini on Thursday (Oct. 16) in Champaign, Ill.
"The score was really lopsided but I didn't think indicative because of some of the close races we lost," said MSU head coach Matt Gianiodis. "I'm not disappointed in our effort. We swam OK."
For the second-consecutive week, sophomore Becca Ebner won the 100 fly with a time of 57.09.
Ebner was also a part of the Spartans' 200 medley relay team that included Stephanie Fisher, Kerry Sodonis and Julie Kahn which swam a 1:47.95, good for first place.
The longest event of the night was also the closest and unfortunately, the Spartans were on the short end as Illinois' Torrey Loper just touched out the Spartans' Marlys Fuqua in the 1,000 free by .04.
Danielle Williams closed out the day with a first-place finish on the one-meter board with a score of 301.73.
The two teams will compete in the second session of the two-day meet tomorrow at 4 p.m.
