Women's Tennis Sweeps Singles Flights In Spartan Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State's women's tennis team captured singles titles in seven of the Spartan Invitational's flights while the Spartans also earned one doubles title. Overall, MSU went 41-3 between singles and doubles matches in the two-day tournament; nine Spartans were undefeated in singles action, while three doubles partners were unbeaten. Singles flights six and seven were shared championships for MSU, as was the doubles flight victory.

In the final round, the Spartans went undeafeted against Cleveland State, winning all eight contests. Highlighting MSU's competitive spirit, Christine Bader played in the tournament's final singles match, stretching the match to three sets with Cleveland State's Holzinger. The two traded first sets before Bader came back to claim the final set, and eventual flight one title, with the 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 victory.

Along with Bader's top flight win, Stephanie Kebler, Manon Noe, Michelle Murphy and Lindsey Lonergan claimed flights two through five, respectively. Whitney Wilson shared her championship title with Louisville's Jo-Ann va Aerde in flight six, while Marianne Eelens was co-champion of flight seven with Albany's Charlotte Tatler.

In doubles success, Lonergan and Noe co-championed flight two with Toledo's Alexandria Rydberg and Catherine Butts. Both tandems were 3-0 in the tournament.
