Women's Tennis Wraps Up Action At William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Michigan State women's tennis rebounded at the William & Mary Invitational over the weekend, advancing to singles and doubles consolation final rounds. Stephanie Kebler won flight C's singles consolation bracket while Manon Noe claimed the doubles flight C doubles bracket with partner Melissa Hoffmiester of Arkansas.
"I was proud of how we competed today and throughout the tournament," said head coach Erica Perkins. "I think we made a statement and the girls really believe now that they can compete with some of the better teams in the nation."
In Kebler's consolation matches, the junior defeated Maryland's Maggie MacKeever in the semifinals in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Meanwhile, Pennsylvania's Maria Anisimova withdrew from the bracket, giving Kebler the consolation title by default.
In singles flight D, Noe advanced the farthest of the Spartans in regulation matches but fell in the semifinals to Virginia's Maggie Yahner in a hard fought three-set match, 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-1. In a consolation back bracket, Noe bested Karin Lundmark from Maryland in a tie breaker, 6-3, 4-6, 10-5.
Ana Milosavljevic won her consolation back bracket with wins over Princeton's Kristin Scott, 6-3, 6-7(5), 10-5, and Boston College's Sarah Svoboda 6-4, 6-3.
Doubles action earned more victories for State. Kebler and Milosavljevic easily beat out BC's Katharine Attwell and Jacqueline Mabatah, 8-1, but lost a tough semifinal match against Marshall's Thaddea Lock and Isabel Raich 8-6. In flight C's consolation action, Noe competed with Arkansas Melissa Hoffmeister, and the pair won their bracket with an 8-2 win over Marshall's Jessica Keener and Kassie Moore.
Spartan women's tennis returns to action Sept. 21-22 at Texas Tech's Scarborough Open in Lubbock, Texas.
