Big Ten Announces Spring Academic All-Conference Teams

Complete List Of 2007 Spring Academic All-Big Ten Honorees
PARK RIDGE, Ill. - As the 2006-07 school year comes to a close, the Big Ten Conference recognizes a total of 944 spring and at-large sports student-athletes who have been named to the Academic All-Conference Team. Michigan State has placed a total of 81 student-athletes from 10 different spring sports teams on the Academic All-Conference team. To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a career grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better.
The complete list of honored student-athletes features 84 baseball players, 69 softball players, 103 women's rowing athletes, 49 women's and 38 men's golfers, 49 women's and 44 men's tennis standouts, 169 women's and 139 men's track and field athletes and 107 women's (representing water polo, ice hockey, fencing, synchronized swimming, lightweight rowing, lacrosse, pistol and rifle) and 93 men's (representing ice hockey, volleyball, lacrosse, fencing, rowing, pistol and rifle) at-large athletes. Six Big Ten student-athletes from seven different schools maintained unblemished career GPAs through the spring semester.
The track and field team led all MSU sports with 22 honorees, while the women's rowing team was just behind with 19 members earning Academic All-Conference accolades. Nine MSU baseball players, six women's tennis and six men's at-large student-athletes were also honored, while men's tennis, softball and women's golf each placed five members, and women's golf garnered four selections.
Overall, the Big Ten Conference recognized 2,018 Academic All-Big Ten honorees during the 2006-07 academic year, the highest total in the last 13 seasons, eclipsing the previous best of 1,995 set just one year ago.
