COLUMBIA, Mo. - Nicole Bush and Sarah Price automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 3,000-meter steeplechase after completing the race in second and fourth place, respectively, on Saturday night at the NCAA Mideast Regional meet.
Bush ran her second-best time of the year with a 10:10.35 to finish second, earning her second-consecutive trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Price posted a personal-best 10:22.17, taking 11 seconds off her previous best set at the recent Big Ten Championships. The sophomore was seeded ninth before the race and finished in fourth place, earning her first trip to the national meet.
Sophomore Jonathon Allen fell one place short of an automatic bid in the triple jump when he finished in sixth place with a mark of 15.69 meters (51-5 3/4). Due to his strong performance he still has a chance of being granted an at-large bid by the committee.
Senior John Childress had an eighth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdle finals with a time of 14.15. Freshman Ian Boyle completed the 1,500-meter run in 3:54.02 and a 13th-place finish. Senior Taren James placed 14th in the triple jump with a distance of 12.53 meters (41-1 1/2).
The Spartans continue competition at the NCAA Championships, June 6-9 in Sacramento, Calif.
