EAST LANSING, Mich. - Women's tennis sophmore Ana Milosavljevic talks with msuspartans.com as the team prepares for its final two matches of the season. The South Africa native came to MSU last season and has continued to be a contributor to the Spartan lineup. Milosavljevic has split time this season at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, and has teamed up with senior Pascale Schnitzer at No. 2 doubles.
On her biggest improvement throughout the season...
I think everything has been improving. There's not just one specific thing. Everything from fitness to tennis skills, to school work has been improving.
On playing doubles with Pascale Schnitzer...
With Erica being our new coach, she's taught us a lot of tactics and plays, and we've been working on that. I feel that is what has helped us with our success, and we enjoy it and have fun.
Best memory with the seniors...
There's just so many. They're unbelievable. They've been supportive through everything and really helpful. Every day with the team is building friendships and memories.
On her favorite music to listen to before a match...
Dance or house. That kind of music.
Favorite person on the team to room with on road trips...
Marianne (Eelens). We've been living together for two years now and we're basically best friends.
On being a finance major...
Finance is across boarders. It's an international major, and I'm not sure if I want to stay here when I'm done or if I want to go home when I'm done. With finance I can do a lot with it.
On the best part of Michigan State...
I like the spirit. The MSU spirit is great. Everyone is all about green and white and Sparty.
On growing up in South Africa...
It's different than here, in that here you have a lot more freedom. The culture is pretty much the same, everyone is English speaking, and there's not a big difference. Mainly it is the freedom.
On the languages she speaks...
I speak English, Serbian and Afrikaans. My first language was Serbian because of my parents. I learned English when I was three and Afrikaans when I was six. Every year in school we learned more and more.
On how she got involved in tennis...
My mom really wanted me to play a sport, and do something in the afternoons after school. She sent me to a whole bunch of things, and I quit everything except for tennis. I liked it.
Favorite professional tennis player...
Favorite girl: Kim Clijsters. Favorite guy: Roger Federer. They're amazing at what they do. I feel like I kind of have a similar game style to Kim. I really like how she plays.
On her reaction to the hockey team winning the NCAA Championship...
We were pumped. Everyone was proud to be an MSU student at that point. It's such a huge thing. We were really happy for the team.
On her plans for the summer...
Summer classes for first session and then I'm going home for about six weeks. Then I'll be back here for next year. I'll be playing tennis and working out, but summer in Michigan will be a new experience for me.
