EVANSTON, Ill. - Spartan women's tennis opened action at the Wildcat Invitational Friday with two singles players and one doubles tandem advancing through round one. Michigan State competed in two doubles draws and three singles draws.
"I was very pleased today with energy we came out with in singles," said head coach Erica Perkins. "Across the board we came out positive, playing to win. We are getting better every day in doubles, and I was happy to see Ana [Milosavljevic] and Whit [Whitney Wilson] as well as Stephanie [Kebler] and Christine [Milliken] pull out close matches in their second rounds."
Manon Noe and Lindsey Lonergan advanced through the first round of doubles in the top flight, defeating DePaul's Csordas and Ganeva 8-3. The partner's second round match resulted in an 8-4 loss to Purdue's Craven and Wooten.
Stephanie Kebler and Christine Milliken also played in doubles' flight A, dropping their first match but rebounding with a strong 9-7 win in consolation, besting William and Mary's duo of Zidek and Kasztelaniec.
In singles action, Lonergan defeated Solkavic 6-2, 6-4 in flight B's round one while Murphy bested DePaul's Murisic in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 in flight C.
Action continues Saturday with both singles and doubles in all flights while the championship matches will be held Sunday.
