Pacific Palisades, Calif. - Michigan State women's tennis captains, Christine Bader and Sarah Andrews were bested by Georgia's Yvette Hyndman and Monika Dancevic in the pre-qualifying draw of the Riviera/ ITA Women's All-American Championships on Saturday. Bader also suffered a loss in the first round of the pre-qualifying singles draw.
The duo started off the day against Hyndman and Dancevic in the first round of doubles play. With a few chances to turn the match in their favor the Spartans were unable to take advantage of the opportunities, allowing the Bulldog team to come away with an 8-5 win.
"The girls made huge improvements as a team following the Spartan Cup," said MSU assistant coach Stefan Naughton. "They had a few chances to hold serve at double-break, but were unable to capitalize."
Following the doubles round, Bader went on to face Cal Poly's Carol Erickson, falling in two sets (6-3, 6-4).
"Christine had a few charges in the second set to take it to three, but she was unable to capitalize," said Naughton. "All in all, I think they had a good showing and are both making progress."
The team will pick up fall play Oct. 6-8 at the Wildcat Invitational in Evanston, Ill.
