EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State goalkeeper Jason Tillman was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and earned a spot on the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week, announced Sept. 25. Tillman earns the honors after posting shutouts in the Spartans' last two outings.
Tillman helped Michigan State improve to 6-2-1, with a 1-0 win over Bowling Green (Sept. 20) and 0-0 tie with Wisconsin (Sept. 24). Making a total of six saves last week, the senior captain has allowed just five goals in nine games this season, maintaining a goals-against average of 0.39. Upping his season shutout total to six, Tillman has recorded 18-career shutouts.
Tillman has been named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week twice this season, also earning the honor on Sept. 11, after back-to-back shutouts against Virginia Commonwealth (1-0) and Butler (2-0). Acknowledged once in 2005, it is his third such honor of his career.
As the only Big Ten player on this week's list, Tillman is collecting his first Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week award.
