EAST LANSING, Mich. - Senior Chayla Hill talks about the team transition with a associate head coach and what she's looking forward to in her senior year.
Q: What are you most looking forward to about the upcoming season, especially since it is your senior year?
A: I'm most looking forward to taking everything in. During my freshman year it was exciting to be here, and all the other years too, but this year I'm really excited to take it all in because it's my last year.
Q: Do you have any pre-meet rituals or superstitions?
A:I always pray - before every meet I have to pray and that's about it.
Q: How has the team transition been with Randy (Lane) coming in as Associate Head Coach?
A:It's been fun. He's really funny and he brings a lot of energy on days when the team seems to be lacking in energy. He also brings a different perspective on things.
Q: You snatched a first place finish on Vault in the Big Ten Championships last season, can you talk about what that was like?
A:It was incredible. When I did the vault I didn't know it was going to be for the conference championship so I just did what I usually do. Then when awards came and the scores started getting higher and higher, and the place did too, it was almost like, `Is it really me?' It was really exciting and I hope I can do it again this year.
Q: How did you feel last season when your teammates selected you as the team's Most Outstanding Gymnast for the second consecutive season?
A:It's exciting and it's very honoring. I mean, I can't thank my teammates enough for all the support that they give me everyday in the gym and when I'm having a hard day they're always there for me too. It was good to know that they think I'm that valuable.
Q: What is your favorite memory of your gymnastics career? What will you miss most about Michigan State?
A:I'll miss home meets, I'll miss the home crowd because it's nice to step out on the floor and be at home. I'll also miss all of my girls on the team.
Q: What are your plans following your senior year?
A:I think I'm going to stay in Michigan and try to get a job that pertains to my major, hospitality business, even though it's kind of hard but that's my goal. Also, I want to stick around and support Michigan State gymnastics!
